2017 Labor and Delivery Excellence Award Recipient

Madera Community Hospital named Healthgrades

2017 Labor and Delivery Excellence AwardRecipient

Madera, CA July 25, 2017 – Madera Community Hospital announced today, it has achieved Healthgrades 2017 Labor and Delivery Excellence Award™, according to Healthgrades, the leading online resource for comprehensive information about physicians and hospitals. The distinction places Madera Community Hospital within the top 10% of all hospitals evaluated for the exceptional care provided to mothers during labor and delivery.

"We are honored to receive this award as a testament of Madera Community Hospital's unified, consistent service excellence and quality outcomes. The National Labor and Delivery Quality Rankings is accomplished by a team of committed physicians, surgeons and clinicians," Evan J. Rayner, Chief Executive Officer, Madera Community Hospital.

To help consumers evaluate and compare hospital performance in labor and delivery, Healthgrades analyzed patient outcome data for virtually every hospital in the 17 states that provide all-payer state data for years 2013 through 2015. Healthgrades found that the variation in hospital performance makes a significant difference in terms of clinical outcomes:

  • From 2013-2015, if all hospitals in the 17 states included in this analysis, as a group, performed similarly to hospitals receiving the Labor and Delivery Excellence Award, on average, 128,302 in-hospital complications could potentially have been avoided.*
  • Further, from 2013-2015, patients treated in hospitals receiving the Labor and Delivery Excellence Award, had, on average, a 53.8% lower risk of experiencing a complication while in the hospital than if they were treated in hospitals that did not receive the Labor and Delivery Excellence Award.*

"Consumers place high-quality outcomes at the top of their wish list when selecting a hospital, and health systems that have achieved this particular distinction stand out among their peers," said Brad Bowman, MD, Chief Medical Officer, Healthgrades. "Especially in an environment where consumers have more choices than ever before about where to receive care, a hospital's commitment to achieving high-quality outcomes for their patients is more important than ever."

Since 2009, Madera Community Hospital has earned 5-Stars in labor and delivery care. This year, of the 13 hospitals evaluated in Madera, Fresno, Kings, and Tulare Counties, Madera Community Hospital is one of three named in the top 10%, for labor and delivery care and one of eight recognized by Healthgrades with 5-Star Awards in Vaginal and C-Section Deliveries.

"Each day, physicians and surgeons strive to provide the best care for our patients. This Labor and Delivery Award of Excellence is indicative of Madera Community Hospital's patient focused care and quality outcomes," Mohammad Arain, MD, Chief of Staff.

Healthgrades will present Madera Community Hospital with 5 Labor and Delivery Awards during a reception in the main hospital lobby on Thursday, August 3, 2017 at 5:00 p.m.
