Madera Community Hospital Receives an “A” for Patient Safety

Madera, CA October 31, 2017 The Leapfrog Group, a national nonprofit health care ratings organization, today released new Leapfrog Hospital Safety Grades. The Safety Grade assigns letter grades of A, B, C, D and F to hospitals nationwide based on their performance in preventing medical errors, infections and other harm. Madera Community Hospital was one of 832 awarded an "A", in the US, for its commitment to keeping patients safe and meeting the highest safety standards.

"The Leapfrog "A" grade is evidence of the nationally ranked safety and quality healthcare our patients deserve and receive when choosing Madera Community Hospital," Evan J. Rayner, Chief Executive Officer, Madera Community Hospital. "While this is the first "A" in our health system history, it is a significant milestone and demonstrates our multi-disciplinary team's relentless focus on safe patient centered care and nationally ranked outcomes," added Rayner.

Developed under the guidance of a Blue Ribbon National Expert Panel, the Leapfrog Hospital Safety Grade uses 27 measures of publicly available hospital safety data to assign A, B, C, D and F grades to more than 2,600 U.S. hospitals twice per year. It is calculated by top patient safety experts, peer reviewed, fully transparent and free to the public.

"My colleagues and I take great pride in the exemplary patient safety outcomes recognized by The Leapfrog Group," Mohammad Arain, MD, Chief of Staff, Madera Community Hospital. "We strive for continual process improvement resulting in safe, efficient patient care," added Dr. Arain.

"It takes consistent, unwavering dedication to patients to achieve the highest standards of patient safety. An 'A' Safety Grade recognizes hospitals for this accomplishment," said Leah Binder, President and CEO of The Leapfrog Group. "We congratulate the clinicians, Board, management and staff of Madera Community Hospital for showing the country what it means to put patient safety first."

"Recognition from The Leapfrog Group verifies a universal commitment to patient safety from our Medical Staff, Employees and the Board," said Stell Manfredi, Chair, Madera Community Hospital Board of Trustees. "Patient safety is a primary component in delivering on our commitment to provide quality hospital based healthcare in Madera," Manfredi added.
